The Open Juniors Contest was a massive success with 61 anglers taking part. The weather was good but a bit blowy, but we had plenty to weigh in still.
For the 8-year-olds and under we weighed in 7 sprats, 1 spotty, 16 snapper, 9 kahawai, a kingfish, 2 grandaddies, 2 trevally, 2 parrot fish and a pink maomao. Harper Ashurst had the heaviest snapper at an amazing 9kg on 8kg line, a possible new small-fry girls club line record. Briar Foster had the heaviest kahawai of 2.14kg, Rex Sturge had the heaviest sprat of 1.65kg, Kaewa McLean had the heaviest spotty of 0.165kg, and the heaviest other fish was caught by Briar, a kingfish of 12.85kg, a very good catch for a small-fry.
The 9–13-year-olds weighed in 14 kahawai. a kingfish, 10 snapper, 6 trevally, 3 pink maomao, 2 grandaddies, a terakihi and a parrot fish. Chloe Steel landed the heaviest kingy of 8.59kg, Blake Fergus had the heaviest snapper of 8.03kg which is another very good catch for a young angler, Ellie Sturge had the heaviest trevally of 2.125kg, Nate Fergus had the heaviest kahawai of 2.16kg and the heaviest other fish was a grandaddy of 1.9kg caught by Eddie Attwood.
Zoe Ball was happy to win a major lucky draw prize of an outdoor cinema setup, and everyone got an ice block and there were happy children, bubbles and toys everywhere, so everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. Big thanks to the organisers and Jason Farmilo for donating some prizes.
