HISTORY

The Whangaroa township is rich in history and legends. To those that have discovered its secrets it is also known as The Jewel of the North, Marlin Country, and a Fisherman’s Paradise.

Established February 1925, it was then known as the Whangaroa NZ Swordfish & Big Game Incorporated Club, and later Whangaroa Big Gamefish Club.

With game fishing grounds off the harbour entrance and Stephensons Island and the Ruahine Reef offshore, there are always fish around. The Cavalli Islands nearby are renowned for world class Gamefishing.
