Braid Line Banned — At the AGM of the NZSFC the current Records Officer Pete Saul discussed his work for the season, records that had been passed, and the use of braid line. Pete had purchased different line weights and brands of braid, and tested their tensile strength. He found that most braid over-tested by nearly double with only one brand that slightly over-tested. Following on from the AGM, there was a recommendation put forward at the last Zone 1 meeting in Paihia on the 10th November. This recommendation was forwarded, seconded and carried, and reads as follows:
As a follow on from the AGM decision on braid line, that clubs ban the use of braid from Tournaments, Trophies, Prizes and Club Awards.
This is only a recommendation as the Zone 1 delegates could not dictate to individual clubs that they should ban the use of braid line. Further to this, discussions were held at the club’s committee meeting on 14th November. The committee decided that they agreed with the recommendation from the Zone 1 meeting and carried the following motion:
We do not accept braid line for any tournaments, trophies, prizes and club awards as recommended from Zone 1, subject to the Judicial Committee agreeing. Members will then be notified ASAP.
The views of the judiciary were then sought, who whole-heartedly supported the decision of the committee. It was felt that if braid was not banned, every fish that were caught on braid line the line would have to be tested. Due to the inconsistency of its tensile strength, this would most likely result in a high proportion of these catches being disqualified, and a lot of upset anglers. The end result is that from this season onwards the use of braid line is banned.
Weigh-ins — When bringing in a fish to be weighed, please state over the radio your approximate arrival time. You may also request the Club photographer.
For courtesy weighs, please ensure that you complete a duplicate weigh sheet and have it signed by the officiating weighmaster/mistress and mail it within 21 days to your Club Manager.
Courtesy weighs are free of charge to all full members of NZSFC affiliated clubs upon production of a valid membership card. All other courtesy weighs are charged at $20 to the weigh-master.
Additional weigh sheets can be uplifted from the Club without charge. All tagged and liberated fish must be reported to the radio operator on the day to enable us to keep our records up to date. We require a weigh sheet, with tag card and tag number recorded. In the case of liberated fish, a weigh sheet must also be handed in. NZSFC tags can be purchased from the Club.
